Flat Launcher (“Flat Launcher,” “we,” “our,” or “the App”) is an Android launcher application that provides home screen customization and optional features such as a custom status bar, lock screen cover, Control Center, Notification Panel, Dynamic Island, Dialer, Messages, App Lock, and Hidden Apps Vault.
This Privacy Policy explains the types of information and device access Flat Launcher may use to provide its features.
By using Flat Launcher, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information and Device Data Used by Flat Launcher
Flat Launcher requires access to certain information and Android system capabilities depending on which features you enable.
Installed Applications
As a launcher, Flat Launcher accesses information about applications installed on your device so it can display and manage your app list, home screen, App Library, folders, Spotlight search, hidden apps, locked apps, and related launcher functionality.
This information may include application names, package identifiers, icons, categories, and launch information.
Flat Launcher uses Android package visibility capabilities, including QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES, because displaying and launching installed applications is a core function of a launcher.
Launcher Layout and Preferences
Flat Launcher stores information necessary to preserve your launcher configuration, including:
Home screen app positions and pages
Dock configuration
Folders and folder memberships
Hidden and locked application selections
App Library display mode
Feature toggles
Lock timeout settings
First-run and onboarding state
Lock screen cover settings
Pattern lock hash
Other launcher preferences
This information is stored locally using Android Room and DataStore.
Recent Applications
Flat Launcher may maintain recent application information to provide features such as recent apps within Spotlight.
Notifications
When you grant Android Notification Access and enable relevant features, Flat Launcher can access notifications in order to provide the Notification Panel, Notification Center, and Dynamic Island notification functionality.
Notification information may be processed and stored locally to provide notification history, conversation grouping, opening notifications, dismissing notifications, and clearing notifications.
Flat Launcher uses a notification listener service for this functionality.
Notification Access is optional. Features that depend on notifications may not function when access is not granted.
Phone, Contacts, and Call Information
Flat Launcher Pro includes optional Dialer functionality.
When you enable the Dialer and grant the necessary permissions or assign Flat Launcher the appropriate Android Phone role, Flat Launcher may access information necessary to provide calling features, including:
Phone numbers
Contacts
Call history
Active call information
Call state
This information is used to provide features such as the keypad, contacts, call history, in-call interface, and active-call information displayed through Dynamic Island.
Dialer functionality is optional and depends on the permissions and Android roles you grant.
SMS and Message Information
Flat Launcher Pro includes optional Messages functionality.
When Flat Launcher is assigned the appropriate Android SMS role and receives the necessary permissions, the App may access and process SMS-related information to provide:
Message threads
Conversations
Incoming SMS messages
Sending SMS messages
Message search and display
Message and thread information may be stored locally using Room to provide these features.
Flat Launcher also includes Android components associated with SMS/MMS role requirements.
Messages functionality is optional and requires the relevant Android permissions and roles.
Media Information
Flat Launcher may access active media session information to provide media controls in features such as Control Center and Dynamic Island.
This may include information such as:
Media title
Artist
Album artwork
Playback status
Playback position
Available media controls
This information is used to display and control media playback.
Device and System Status
Flat Launcher may access device status information required to provide launcher and system-style interface features.
This may include:
Battery level and charging state
Network and connectivity status
Wi-Fi status
Cellular status
Time
Media volume
Screen state
Brightness and display settings
This information is used to provide features such as the custom status bar, Control Center, Dynamic Island, and related system indicators.
Wallpaper
Flat Launcher may access your device wallpaper to display it behind the home screen, App Library, lock screen cover, and glass interface surfaces.
Wallpaper data may be processed and cached locally for performance and visual effects.
Security Information
Flat Launcher Pro provides App Lock, Hidden Apps Vault, and lock screen cover security functionality.
Depending on the features you enable, Flat Launcher may locally maintain information such as:
Which applications are locked
Which applications are hidden
Unlock session state
Unlock timeout
Pattern lock hash
Security preferences
Biometric authentication may be performed using Android's biometric authentication mechanisms. Flat Launcher does not need access to your raw fingerprint, face, or other biometric template to request authentication through the Android biometric system.
2. Permissions and Special Access
Flat Launcher may request Android permissions, special access, or system roles depending on the features you choose to use.
These may include:
Default Home / Launcher Role: Allows Flat Launcher to function as your Android home screen.
Display Over Other Apps: Used for features such as the floating custom Status Bar and Dynamic Island.
Notification Access: Used for Notification Panel, Notification Center, and notification-related Dynamic Island functionality.
Accessibility Service: Used for optional Control Center edge-swipe functionality.
Modify System Settings: Used for functionality such as system brightness and auto-rotate controls.
Biometric Authentication: Used for security features such as App Lock, Hidden Apps Vault, and lock screen cover authentication.
Phone Permissions and Phone Role: Used when enabling Flat Launcher's optional Dialer and calling functionality.
Contacts and Call Log Permissions: Used to provide Dialer contacts and call history where enabled.
SMS Permissions and SMS Role: Used when enabling Flat Launcher's optional Messages functionality.
Foreground Services: Used for features that need to operate while Flat Launcher is not in the foreground, such as overlay functionality.
Installed Application Access: Used to provide the fundamental launcher functionality of discovering, displaying, searching, organizing, and launching applications installed on the device.
Permissions are requested only where required by the relevant feature or Android platform requirements. You can manage permissions through Android's system settings, although disabling a permission may prevent the associated feature from working.
3. Local Data Storage
Flat Launcher uses local storage mechanisms including Room and DataStore.
Depending on the features you use, locally stored data may include launcher layouts, folders, preferences, hidden and locked app lists, notification records, recent apps, SMS threads and messages, call history, and security configuration.
Some locally stored information may be removed when you clear the App's data or uninstall Flat Launcher, subject to Android's storage behavior.
4. Crash Reporting and Diagnostics
The Flat Launcher specification includes Firebase Crashlytics integration for crash reporting.
Crash reporting may involve diagnostic information necessary to identify and investigate crashes or technical problems.
The exact categories of information collected and transmitted through Crashlytics are not specified in the current Flat Launcher feature specification. This policy should be updated to describe those practices accurately before publication if Crashlytics is enabled in the production release.
5. Flat Launcher Pro
Premium functionality is unlocked through a separate application called Flat Launcher Pro.
Flat Launcher does not use Google Play Billing for its Pro unlock.
To determine whether Pro functionality should be available, Flat Launcher may verify:
Whether Flat Launcher Pro is installed
Whether Flat Launcher was installed through Google Play
Whether Flat Launcher Pro was installed through Google Play
Whether the Pro application's license provider returns the expected license information
These checks are used to verify the Pro unlock and protect against unauthorized copies.
6. Data Sharing
The provided Flat Launcher specification does not describe selling personal information or sharing launcher, notification, contact, call, SMS, or security data with advertisers.
However, the specification identifies Firebase Crashlytics as part of the application. Because the exact production configuration and data transmitted to Crashlytics are not specified, any third-party data sharing associated with Crashlytics should be verified before this Privacy Policy is published.
7. Data Security
Flat Launcher uses Android platform security mechanisms and local application storage to support its features.
Sensitive features such as App Lock and Hidden Apps Vault can use biometric or device authentication. Pattern information for the lock screen cover is stored as a hash rather than as the plain-text pattern.
No method of electronic storage or software security is completely secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
Flat Launcher stores various feature data locally for as long as necessary to provide the corresponding functionality.
Notification storage includes mechanisms for pruning old dismissed or inactive notification records.
You can remove locally stored Flat Launcher information by using relevant in-app controls where available, clearing Flat Launcher's application data through Android settings, or uninstalling the App.
Information processed by third-party services, such as crash reporting services, may be subject to the respective provider's retention policies.
9. Children's Privacy
Flat Launcher is not specifically designed to collect personal information from children.
Because features such as notifications, calling, messaging, contacts, and application management may expose information present on the device, parents and guardians should supervise use where appropriate.
10. Third-Party Applications and Services
Flat Launcher can launch applications, system settings, phone functionality, messaging functionality, and other services installed on or provided by your Android device.
Once you interact with a third-party application or service, its own terms and privacy practices may apply.
Flat Launcher Pro distribution and license verification also interact with Google Play as described above.
11. Your Choices
You control many of Flat Launcher's capabilities through Android permissions, Android roles, special access settings, and Flat Launcher's own settings.
You may disable optional features or revoke their associated permissions through Android settings. Revoking access may cause the corresponding functionality to stop working.
You may also clear Flat Launcher's application data or uninstall the App to remove locally stored application data, subject to Android's behavior.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when Flat Launcher changes, when new features are introduced, or when privacy and legal requirements change.
When the policy is updated, the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page will be revised.
