"Finally had to replace my 25 year old, Sony CD999's, not because they lost their great sound, but because the padding around the ears, and headband, were decayed and shedding material all over the place, and couldn't find replacement ear cups and headband padding. And on top of that, I'm back home with Sennheiser, which were the first quality headphones I purchased back in the seventies, yes, those '70's. I always enjoyed the sound from those headphones, though bass was not their forte. Now, with the Sennheiser Urbanite's, I'm back in the groove and enjoying the music, once again. I found the fit to be a little tight at first, but it was not a factor after listening to them for a two hour stint. The padding is similar to memory foam, I guess, and no leakage of music when worn correctly (at least not that my wife could hear while I was wearing them and listening at a fairly loud volume). The cable is sturdy, the controls for iOS devices works as advertised, the stuff sack is, well, it's a stuff sack. Oh, one more thing, go to Sennheiser online, and watch some of their ads for the Urbanites. Really well done and very funny!"

"I purchased this about 10 years ago from a local high end audio retailer, a friend, who demonstrated sound from AKG, Grado and Bose. Gosh! The Sennheiser HD 650 took the lead by a mile! Recall that the HD650 was the top of the line Sennheiser can back then. It was an open and shut case. I paid for the headset and walked home a distance of about 2 kms with a spring in my steps. Once back the 'phones were connected to my Pioneer surround sound receiver and I played Dire Straits Brothers in Arms CD. Oh wow. The headphones are comfortable to wear, the sound is immersive and fluid. Beautiful! It is this headphone that turned me into a Sennheiser fan and I went on to purchase the CX500 the PX 200, and the PX 200 Mk 2. The HD 650 was one of the few headphones that introduced me to the world of audiophile grade headphones. And I haven't looked back. The HD 650 was surpassed the the new reference master the HD 800 and then the HD 700. The HD 800 is on my wishlist.
The HD650 phones has an impedance of 300 Ohms and not designed for portable audio systems. If you need to run it off a mobile, iPod, laptop or similar a headphone amp is highly recommended. This set needs to be plugged into a amplifier/receiver for best performance."
